Community Mailboxes

We made it almost a full year without a community mailbox incident!

Waiting for repair: March 26, 2020

Thankfully, the boxes were repaired quickly this time so we weren't faced with having to travel to Kamloops to pick up mail.

There have been a few good suggestions from residents over the years:

1. Pick up your mail daily.
2. Put up a security camera. (Anybody have a spare camera?)
3. Go paperless whenever possible, especially for banking and investment mail.
4. Move the mailboxes to a more suitable location. (How can we make this happen?)
5. Rent a mailbox in Kamloops or other nearby location (Many residents already do this.) 

Community Mailboxes

During the night the community mailboxes were knocked around and pried open. This has been reported to Canada Post and the RCMP.  

Mailboxes: Break and Enter

Once again our community mailboxes were tampered with. This notice, dated April 14, was taped to the front of the boxes. The letter states that the incident occurred on or around April 12, 2015.

Mailboxes...again

Our mailboxes have been broken into again. Leslee Lucy spoke to the postal worker who delivers our mail, and it appears the mailboxes were broken into sometime between yesterday's delivery and today's. The mail will not be delivered until the community mailboxes are repaired.

This is happening frequently. We should all check our mail daily. Some residents have opted to pick up mail in Kamloops.

In case you didn't see this soggy letter from Canada Post, posted on the outside of our community mailboxes...  I wonder why they don't put their notices IN the mailboxes? :)

Mailbox update

This update is from David Wyse. (Thanks for doing this, David!)

I contacted the rural post office box department in Canada Post several weeks ago when our mail box was stolen. The person responsible for placement was away on holidays, but contacted me today. She said that currently, they don't have the budget to move the boxes but will install what she called "stabilization kits" that connect the boxes together making them much more difficult to steal and/or knock over.

Update 13 November: A mailbox has been stolen! Again!
Update 14 November: There were 9 mailboxes, then 8, then 9... It wasn't stolen! Canada Post took it to do minor repairs then replaced it the following day.

Lock it up!

To add to the list of recent thefts around Lac Le Jeune, Bob Willis reports that some small items were recently stolen from his dock area on Water Street. This seems to be a trend around long weekends. Be sure to lock up! And remember that good neighbours can be your best protection, so keep in touch about your travels and watch for suspicious activity on your street. 

Lac Le Jeune Mailboxes

Missing mail? The Lac Le Jeune mailboxes were broken into the morning of Friday, 30 March. The incident has been reported. Thanks to Ken McPherson for relaying the information to post on the blog.

Canada Post offers this advice on their website about identity theft. Other than the suggestion to collect your mail promptly after delivery (what time of day is that?), the site mostly explains how to protect your identity after your mail has been stolen.

This isn't the first incident at Lac Le Jeune. What can be done to prevent it? And what are some ways to prevent identity theft? It seems one step in the right direction is to receive and pay bills online.

Neighbourhood watch

A house on Pineridge was broken into last night. 

There have been reports of theft in Lac Le Jeune recently. This is a reminder to watch for, and report, suspicious activity. 

Vehicles broken into

Several vehicles parked along Ridgemont Road were broken into sometime between 4:00 and 7:00 am. Check your vehicles and property, and report any suspicious activity to the Logan Lake RCMP.

Fortunately, this is rare in our community and is less likely to happen again now that all of us are on the lookout!
