The Lac Le Jeune Conservation Association is hosting a FireSmart gathering and BBQ for all residents. Come out and meet your neighbours, hear updates from the Firesmart Committee, learn what you can do to protect against wildfires, and enjoy lunch!

The Lac Le Jeune Conservation Association, as a non profit society, allows us to:

• Obtain Federal, Provincial and TNRD funding for initiatives, such as fire mitigation, water monitoring, conservation initiatives in our beautiful area.
• Build relationships with Ministry of Environment, Fisheries, Forestry, Parks, Transportation and Highways, RCMP, TNRD and other agencies.
• Participate in a Water Monitoring Project in conjunction with Ministry of Environment to help protect our watershed.
• Participate in the Invasive Species Program in conjunction with the TNRD.
• Build relationships with local groups and businesses working on projects in our area.
• Keep up-to-date with conservation issues that affect our community.
• Work together to address emerging issues and to be proactive in protecting our environment.

Lac Le Jeune Conservation Association Annual Dues

During COVID -19 the Lac Le Jeune Conservation Association was unable to hold an in-person annual general meeting. We are excited to be able to gather together again on September 26th at 10:00 in the Provincial Park. Put that date in the calendar!

Two very enthusiastic and responsible young members of the community will be collecting annual dues at the AGM. New members can help make this job easier by first printing and completing the membership form. Bring it along with the $10 fee to the meeting, pop it in the mail (address on the form), or connect with your area representative. 

That's right! Only $10 per household! 

All Lac Le Jeune residents are encouraged to join the Conservation Association. In addition to attending to important conservation issues and ensuring that all voices are represented, the Association is the point of contact for emergency preparedness, social events, RCMP liaison, and Citizens on Patrol.  

Returning members only need to complete the membership form if there are any changes to your contact information. 

Please help spread the word about the AGM!

New Bridge Being Installed This Week

The following notice was delivered to some Lac Le Jeune residents. Perhaps the rest of the residents on the streets listed will receive a notice this weekend. In addition, there is a sign at the bridge.

Lac Le Jeune, Lookout, Marmot, Osprey East, Ridgemont, Heron and Pineridge Roads

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Nicola) Ltd. on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be replacing the bridge on Lac Le Jeune Road commencing on October 19, 2020 with a completion date of October 22, 2020. Expect minor delays between 7am and 7pm for the duration of this project. 

October 20th starting at 9am there will be no vehicular traffic allowed across the bridge while the old structure is removed and the new one is being constructed. YRB expects to have the bridge open to traffic by 4pm on the same day.

Community Spirit during COVID-19

To all residents of Lac Le Jeune:

It is an anxious time for us all. Let’s join other communities in saying THANK YOU to those who are on the front lines including medical staff, grocery and food industry staff, gas attendants, truckers, and all those who continue to work with the public in various capacities!

Here are some suggestions:

• Hang hearts in your windows.
• Keep outside lights on for a few hours at night.
• Step out your door and make some noise at 7:00 pm each night; call out, sing, use pots and spoons, whatever (Kids like doing it, make it their responsibility!) We truly are all in this together and some of us are dealing with other issues in our lives besides COVID-19. We can let them know we are thinking of them as well!

Lac Le Jeune Conservation Association AGM - hold the date!

Winter reading

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Library System recently donated another box of excellent books, including several for young readers. This is a regular occurrence thanks to Coleen Krawchuck who has been coordinating these contributions to our Little Free Library.

Added bonus: you don't need to climb over a snowbank to get yourself a book. The snow shovel, located behind the library, has been put to good use this winter!

Bring your own wine or other beverages of choice. Food will be catered. That's right -- no cooking or cleaning up, just socializing and celebrating! We anticipate the cost for appetizers and rental of the facility will be approximately $15 per person.

Little Free Library Gets a Makeover

It appears as though the Little Free Library was snatched in the night, but don't worry! It's in John Krawchuk's garage undergoing some repairs and upgrades: sturdier latch, glued laminate, new sign, fancy siding, and fresh paint.

Meanwhile, hold on to your books! The library will be ready to fill up again in a week or so.

Thanks John! And a special thanks to Ed Kingsnorth for donating the cedar siding.

Refugees and Friends Together

Thanks to Corinne Shock for raising awareness in our community about the opportunities to donate time, money, and household items to support the 5 Syrian families coming to Kamloops.

• Friday, December 18 -  The Diversity Event (poster below) is an education opportunity for the community, and especially the volunteers who will be helping families directly. You can RSVP via Facebook.
• Saturday, December 19, 10:30-12:00 take household items in GOOD condition (kitchen items, furniture, etc) to 600-800 Mission Flats Road. 
• Donate through United Way. Funds are matched and go directly to help families in the Thompson Nicola Cariboo region
• Donate through CanadaHelps.org (Select RAFT on the pull-down menu)
• Donate through Kamloops Cariboo Regional Immigrant Services

The Lac Le Jeune Contact List is shared with members of the community, as well as the Logan Lake RCMP to be used in emergency situations such as evacuation alerts.

Window and carpet cleaning

Kathy Wyse is looking for 2 - 3 other Lac Le Jeune households that would like to have one or both of these cleaning services done on Friday, July 10 to share travel costs. It is approximately one hour’s drive and the companies typically charge what they would make in that time.

Citizens On Patrol

Have you noticed this sign by our mailboxes? The Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP) involves keeping a neighbourly watch over their communities in an effort to reduce crime. In Lac Le Jeune, Coleen Krawchuk and Carolyn Chandler have been patrolling the area over the past year to watch for any unusual activity. The role of Citizens on Patrol is to simply observe and report back to the police anything that might require follow-up.

This program is always looking for volunteers. It's a great way to give back to the community, and at the same time hang out with chums for a few hours each month :)

LLJ Facebook Group

Some of us Lac Le Jeune folks connect on Facebook and we figured it was time to get an active discussion group going. The group is for members of the Lac Le Jeune Community (residents, visitors, wannabes) to share ideas, information, photos, points of view... whatever you want! The group is public, and moderated. Some content will be cross-posted with the LLJ blog.
