Halloween 2020

This is a summary of activities and tips I've heard from residents. I'm also including tips to decrease the risk of getting or spreading COVID-19, along with other general safety information.

• The Halloween Goblin Wagon will once again be touring the neighbourhoods!
• Plan for approximately 30 trick-or-treaters.
• Provide well-lit self-serve outdoor treat stations. 
• This is an excellent safety list from BC Centre for Disease Control
• There will be a fireworks display on Water Street at 7:30 and residents are encouraged to watch from a distance. If you're planning your own fireworks display, please keep to the 7:30 schedule that's already been established.
• Keep your pets indoors and ensure all escape routes are closed off. When terrified by noise from fireworks, animals may bolt and NEVER find their way back home. 
• If your pets are stressed, stay with them.
• Nix the fake spider web decorations; birds and small animals can get wrapped up in it.
• Pumpkins attract bears so bring them indoors at the end of the evening.

We have a lot of dogs living in Lac Le Jeune, and many enjoying the provincial park. That brings lots of joy, but also more poop! This is a reminder from Pat Burton.

In the last few weeks there has been an increasing amount of dog poop left along the sides of Rainbow Drive. Please pick up after your dog and don’t leave unsightly messes behind to spoil the beauty of our neighbourhood.

Joey needs a home

UPDATE: Joey has been adopted! 

Joey is a friendly 1 year old short hair brown tabby. He loves to play but is happy to relax on his own as well. He is very smart and was even taught to do cat agility with the students! Joey needs to be in a home with no other cats where he has space to roam and explore. He can be very gentle but also can play quite rough at times so therefore would prefer a home with older children that respect his space.

Please pick up!

Have you heard about stools to fuels -- street lamps that run on doggie poo? Unfortunately, we don't have them here! And now that the snow is beginning to melt we're noticing the problem of not picking up after dogs is worse than ever. 

Please prevent this accumulation from ever happening by promptly dealing with dog waste. It's especially important to pick up after your dog near the lake. Your neighbours will also appreciate your efforts on or around their property. Bonus: If you're walking on Lac Le Jeune Road we even have free bags and drop off service.

AHT Pet Adoptions - Milly and Edna

These 2 black beauties are currently available for adoption here at Thompson Rivers University Animal Health Technology.

Milly and Edna are both playful and love to interact with other cats. Milly is super social with people as well and she likes to be cuddled and explore new surroundings. Edna is a bit on the shy side with people and isn’t a cuddler, however, she does enjoy your company and really comes out of her shell when she is in the company of other cats. They are both very quiet, gentle, non-demanding kitties that are looking for a family to love them.

Searching for Felix

UPDATE AUG 2: 

FELIX FOUND IN KNUTSFORD AREA. YAY!

Felix, a husky type dog, went missing Sunday, July 31, 2016. He was last spotted on Park Drive East on Sunday, appeared frightened, and would not get close to people. He is wearing a collar with tags.

If you see Felix or know anything about his whereabouts, please call Angela (the dog's owner) at 250-864-0845.

Have you seen Diego?

Diego went missing near McConnell Lake on Monday, July 18th around 4pm. Please contact Mandy Gunn at 250-318-2170 with any information.

Have you seen Buddy?

UPDATE: GOOD NEWS!! BUDDY IS HOME

Buddy went missing today. He's an 11 year old cocker spaniel. If you have any information please contact The Cassidys: 3808 Pine Ridge Drive, 250 377 6888.

Meet Angus and Abner

These 2 little brothers are looking for a home TOGETHER. They are extremely bonded to each other so they need to be adopted as a pair.

Angus and Abner are 6mths old, playful, friendly and super cute. They enjoy cuddles and sleeping together in the sunshine. They are great with other cats (may be too playful for older cats though) and would likely be okay around dogs once they are used to them. The duo would do best in a home where they get lots of attention and have room to run around, explore and play. They are a bit too rambunctious for small children but older kids would be great companions for them.

Both cats are neutered, tattooed, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed. 

Adoption fee is $75 per cat.

Are you missing your German Shepherd?

UPDATE: This is Riply! She is safe and sound at home with her caretaker. 

A German Shepherd arrived at Paul Jorgensen's house this afternoon and never left. The dog has a collar, including a shocking device, but no identification.

Ash and Tara are both very nice cats and would love to find a permanent home by the end of the month. Ash is more of a loner and would prefer to be the only cat in the household. Does this dog look familiar?

UPDATE: Owner has been found. Thanks everyone for your help keeping this dog warm and safe, and spreading the word!

This dog was found wandering around Marmot Rd in Lac Le Jeune late afternoon today. He has a collar but no identification. James Medford has been going door to door for the past few hours trying to find some leads. THANK YOU, James!

The Morash's cat has been missing for almost 2 weeks. Onyx is long haired, mail, yellow/green eyes with a mark in his right eye, about 7 years old. Please contact Karen Morash with any sightings or information: 250-828-7123

Halloween and animals

Halloween can be a scary and challenging time for animals -- both pets and wildlife.

The SPCA website outlines some things to consider for your pets during trick or treating and fireworks. Strange looking people in costumes can cause friendly animals to feel threatened and become aggressive. Running from loud noises is a typical response for many pets.

Keep in mind that fireworks might continue for the days following Halloween; it seems if people get their hands on fireworks, they must set them all off!

If using fireworks, please also consider wildlife. Startled birds will collide with trees, cars, and buildings. Wildlife and farm animals become tangled in fences as they flee the loud and unusual noises.

Bella is a Bichon Frise/Shih Tsu. On Sunday, September 6th gun shots scared Bella and she ran from her property at Paska Lake. Please call 604-671-3721 with any information.

Have you seen Hardy?

UPDATE: HARDY HAS BEEN FOUND. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Charlene Hanuse is doggy sitting a 1 year old black lab named Hardy.  He got out and bolted around 5:30pm today (February 15).

If you spot him, please all Charlene at 250-572-6245.

He is harmless, but probably a little scared.

Unfortunately, we don't have a photo at this time.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 16: LUKE HAS BEEN SPOTTED IN KNUTSFORD. KEEP LOOKING!

One of the TRU Animal Health Technology program dogs has gotten loose. He is a Husky, black and white and has a collar and leash attached. He is timid but likes other dogs.

If you see him please call us at 250-572-5914 (Sonia) or 250-828-5174 (TRU - AHT building) or 250-320-5578 (Erica).

 He was last seen February 12th in the Springhill area by Kamloops Bylaw officers at around 1:45pm.
