Little Free Library Gets a Makeover

It appears as though the Little Free Library was snatched in the night, but don't worry! It's in John Krawchuk's garage undergoing some repairs and upgrades: sturdier latch, glued laminate, new sign, fancy siding, and fresh paint.

Meanwhile, hold on to your books! The library will be ready to fill up again in a week or so.

Thanks John! And a special thanks to Ed Kingsnorth for donating the cedar siding.

Waiting for repairs

Ginger and Sylvia being rather unhelpful. Check out the siding!

Want better internet service?

UPDATE
Jackie Tegart initiated a conference call with Perry Wingenbach in response to a letter sent regarding our poor internet service. The next steps are Jackie Tegart's office will meet with Telus Wednesday, May 10th, and follow up with Perry. Stay tuned!

If we all continue to write letters and make phone calls to express our dissatisfaction with Lac Le Jeune internet service, we'll make some progress.

Please contact MLA Jackie Tegart

No Internet

Members of our community have been inquiring about better internet service for some time now. However, service seems to continue to get worse. Many residents are frustrated with paying for high speed internet yet experiencing dial-up speeds.

Telus has stated:
There is no plan to make any upgrades at Lac Le Jeune area as there is no concentration of population.
Currently there are NO PORTS available for anyone wanting new internet service at Lac Le Jeune.

Steve Roy reported that he promptly heard back from the MLA's office and they are willing to bring up the fact that Telus isn't prepared to do anything for the residents of LLJ with the Ministry of Technology, Innovation and Citizens Services. Steve was also advised that the more people emailing their concerns to our MLA the better.

Honey Bee Swarms

Honey Bee Happy Dance

Not that I anticipate we'll be seeing honey bees in Lac Le Jeune in the near future, but I wanted to share this excellent website created and maintained by the Kamloops Beekeepers Club.

In particular, this information on what to do if you have a swarm of honey bees on your property is very useful. Above all,
NEVER use a pesticide on bees to remove, kill or scare them away.
This BC Ministry Farming, Natural Resources & Industry Apiculture website also has some great resources, including a list of what to plant to provide bee forage. Many of the flowers on this list thrive in our zone.

Order some seeds while you wait for the snow to melt!

Information for Waterfront Land Owners

Neighbours,

Please be advised of the following information related to waterfront property around Lac Le Jeune (all documents can be reviewed on-line):

From the Quick Guide brochure

1. Quick Guide For Waterfront Land Owners and Developers - Province (PDF)

2. Riparian Areas Regulation Guidebook For Waterfront Home Owners and Property Developers - Province (PDF)

3. Riparian Areas Regulation FAQ Sheet - Thompson Nicola Regional District (PDF)

4. Lakeshore Development Guidelines -Thompson Nicola Regional District (PDF)

5. On The Living Edge, Your Handbook For Waterfront Living - Sarah Kipp and Clive Callaway (Excerpts from this book are available online)

Regulations are in place that restrict removal of natural landscape beside the lake. The basic intent is to retain the integrity of natural conditions that protect fish and wildlife habitat, as well as maintain water quality. Clear cutting of lakeshore property within the riparian area (30 meter setback from lake), especially steep slopes, and removal of shoreline vegetation are not permitted.
