Logan Lake Council Meeting: 26 March, 2013

FlowersThe 26 March, 2013 District of Logan Lake Council Meeting will be of interest to communities in the surrounding areas. There will be a presentation by Noelle Kakula, a recreation officer with the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, in support of a proposal for Logan Lake and surrounding areas to become a provincial destination for off-road ATV riding. This proposal includes the development of a 317-kilometre (35,000 ha) trail network in and around Face Lake, Forge Mountain and Logan Lake.

Some members of the Lac Le Jeune Conservation Association will be attending. Council meetings are open to the public. The more residents informed about this project the better.

Car Accident: Lost Therapy Dog

A small black and white dog ran away after a car accident just south of the Surrey Summit sign on the Coquihalla Highway. The accident occurred yesterday, March 22, at 17:00. The dog is about 27 pounds, looks like a small Border Collie, and answers to the name Whitney. She has a tuxedo chest, a green collar, and a tattoo in her ear: 1945ACJZ.

I just spoke with the owner, who was still searching the area with her daughter.  She will send a photo of the dog as soon as she can get to her computer.

She reported that someone saw Whitney today at 10:30 a.m. but the dog would not come when called. She left Whitney's crate at the accident scene overnight, along with clothing items, and there were tracks around the crate this morning.

Thanks to Kecia Turunen for gathering information earlier today and reporting it via the Kamloops 8100 Radio Station Facebook page.

I drove down Surrey Lake Road this afternoon, which goes under the Coquihalla Highway close to the accident scene. I walked around the Desmond Lake area where I saw tracks. Any help searching the area tomorrow would be appreciated. I'll report any updates here.

If you have any information please contact the owner. (250) 682-5371. and post any updates to the blog.

UPDATE: Whitney was found! The owner spotted her this morning (Saturday, March 24) on the other side of the highway. Whitney came when called and seems to be in good shape.

Dog bite incident

Howard Mattfeld sent this notice to residents in the upper Lac Le Jeune subdivision, and requested that it also be posted on the blog.

To all Lac Le Jeune residents

I have been asked to inform you that this afternoon (9 Mar. 2013) one of our neighbours, Paul Comtois, was attacked and bitten by the three dogs which reside at the end of Lac Le Jeune Road.

Paul had been going for a walk and met the three dogs on the road in front of their house. They had been taken for a walk by their owner in the area of the creek which runs beyond the cul-de-sac at the end of Lac Le Jeune Road. The dogs came from the direction of the creek, surrounded Paul and then began to jostle him by bumping against his legs. It did not take long and they then started to bite him in one leg and one arm. By the time the owner arrived Paul had sustained punctures and tears on his arm. The owner had quite a time getting his dogs under control.

If you walk, or especially if you take your dogs into the area at the East end of the subdivision, please be aware that you may encounter these three dogs. The RCMP is going to be notified for their records. The Conservation Association will also be informed.

Lynx spotting

Yesterday this healthy lynx crossed the road in front of our truck. Fortunately he wasn't moving very quickly, so I managed to grab my phone to snap a photo before he wandered out of sight.

Medications Return Program

054 - Feb 23rd, 2012 - Pharmaceuticals #365photoAR

How do you dispose of expired or surplus medications in your house? It's important to keep unused pharmaceuticals out of landfills and water systems, and return them to a pharmacy for safe collection. Canada Health Products Stewardship Association is making it easier to find participating pharmacies. The map on this website shows several locations in Kamloops, but surprisingly not all pharmacies are listed, and none in Logan Lake. So if you favourite pharmacy isn't listed, you might want to suggest they get added to the list!

Thanks to Carolyn Phillips for passing along this reminder!
