Dog bite incident

Howard Mattfeld sent this notice to residents in the upper Lac Le Jeune subdivision, and requested that it also be posted on the blog.

To all Lac Le Jeune residents

I have been asked to inform you that this afternoon (9 Mar. 2013) one of our neighbours, Paul Comtois, was attacked and bitten by the three dogs which reside at the end of Lac Le Jeune Road.

Paul had been going for a walk and met the three dogs on the road in front of their house. They had been taken for a walk by their owner in the area of the creek which runs beyond the cul-de-sac at the end of Lac Le Jeune Road. The dogs came from the direction of the creek, surrounded Paul and then began to jostle him by bumping against his legs. It did not take long and they then started to bite him in one leg and one arm. By the time the owner arrived Paul had sustained punctures and tears on his arm. The owner had quite a time getting his dogs under control.

If you walk, or especially if you take your dogs into the area at the East end of the subdivision, please be aware that you may encounter these three dogs. The RCMP is going to be notified for their records. The Conservation Association will also be informed.

I am the owner of the dogs in question, this notice is untrue and so exaggerated by the writter that i want it REMOVED IMMEDIATELY !!!! As we have spoken with the rcmp and the gentleman involved. He did not write this-mail has no idea what it says, did not contact the rcmp and did not want to. This is people sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong.
REMOVED IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!

I just want everyone in the LLJ community to know that I've been in regular communication with the dog owners, as a friend, as a community member, and as someone who shares a passion for dogs -- particularly dogs that did not get an ideal start on life. I've also been in communication with others who are concerned, curious, and confused, both about the specifics of what happened, and about reactions in our community. This incident was unfortunate, is being taken seriously by the owners, and for sure people will learn from it.

One of the reasons we started the blog five years ago was to have a place to share ideas and experiences, but to also have a way to speak out. As information passes through a grapevine it changes. The blog provides an opportunity to share your story directly, and to seek clarification.

So, the dog owners agree that leaving this information on the blog can be useful; it will not be removed. It can lead to better education about dog behaviour, and some reflection on the best ways to move forward when issues do arise in the neighbourhood. Some follow up blog posts are in the works.
