Description of the proposal on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency website:
KGHM Ajax Mining Inc. is proposing to construct and operate the Ajax Mine Project located partially within the City of Kamloops, British Columbia. The Ajax Mine Project is an open pit copper/gold mine and is expected to process 60,000 tonnes of ore per day (21.9 million tonnes per year) for export over a mine life of 23 years.

The Ajax mine is a horror show about to be played out in living colour. It will impact our generation and at least the next 4 generations of people who live in Kamloops and its immediate south west boundaries. We are doing an absolute disservice to our kids and the kids who are not even born yet IF we do not persuade our politicians to bring this project to a halt before the first blast is heard.
The wildlife in the area will be driven away by noise and light pollution. We already have a priceless gem above the ground in that area and I cannot see why the process has even gone this far. What happened to just saying "no"?

Couldn't agree more, John! All this time has passed and I've yet to hear one benefit. Not one.

I really like the letter by Steve Knudson published in the Kamloops Daily News http://www.kamloopsnews.ca/ 13 August, 2012 . He states in a few short paragraphs why we should just stop the process now. Copied below...

"To Kamloops City Council and MLA's Kevin Krueger and Terry Lake,
I strongly request that as the elected representative of this community that you reject any motion to approve the Ajax mine.

The destruction that will be done to the environment, decrease in quality of life, pollution and overall degradation of life in Kamloops can never be traded away for a handful of jobs.

The profits from this mine will not benefit this city or the residents. The profits will be made by foreign investors in one of the worst industrial polluting companies in Europe.

The jobs promised will likely not be filled by Kamloops citizens but will be filled by people moving from other mining communities. Support for this mine will result in 25 years of daily blasting and the resultant dust spreading over Kamloops.

Please observe Valleyview on a windy day and see the dust that is blown from the Owl Road dump then magnify this 100 times. If this mine goes ahead with your support you will be responsible for a legacy of environmental destruction and a significantly degraded community.

As I see it, this is not a decision that requires assessments or reports but a simple answer to the question of whether or not we want this massive abomination to be built on our doorstep."
