The Thompson Nicola District Office is inviting comments regarding the proposed closure of Goose Lake Road.
The proposal is to close approximately 6.8km of Goose Lake Road through the NE1/4 of Section 34, Township 18, Range 18, W6M, KDYD to the SW 1/4 of Section 18, Township 19, Range 17, W6M, KDYD, near the community of Knutsford.
Please provide comments no later than April 11, 2016 via post or email.

As residents of Lac Le Jeune, we are all probably pretty familiar with the area of the proposed Ajax Mine. Update from Michelle Wiebe, Area Supervisor - BC Parks (Southern Rivers Area)
Hello All!
Thank you to Sylvia Currie and Corinne Schock for inviting me to participate in the Lac Le Jeune Community blog. I believe this will be a great opportunity for me, on behalf of BC Parks, to communicate with the residents in continuing to have an open dialogue in regards to the management of the provincial park.
As you may recall, on September 10, 2015, Sylvia posted a document on the blog I was to present at the LLJ Conservation Association Annual General Meeting. Since then, I have continued to have conversations with some of you and have made some progress on a few of the items I listed.
FireSmart:
With ongoing conversations with some in the LLJ community, there is an interest to move towards implementing some "FireSmart" principles - particularly in the southwest portion of the park (across the lake from the developed campground).
On February 10, 2016 a Facebook post highlighted some progress the BC Wildfire Service(BCWS) is having in an area of the province with a similar arrangement (provincial park adjacent to private property) - see the link at http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=2579
I have had several meeting with the Kamloops Fire Centre staff (the Kamloops portion of the BCWS) regarding implementing FireSmart principles in this portion of the park for this upcoming field season - depending on the weather (and other BCWS factors) they are anticipating conducting burning activities as early as possible - March 2016 is possible. Their intent is to minimize any potential risk of fire spreading to the adjacent neighbours should a fire happen to initiate in this part of the provincial park - and implementing FireSmart activities at the time of year that will be the least disruptive to the community and/or users of the park. I will be working closely with the BCWS so please contact me if you have any questions.
I hope everyone is having a great February and getting outside as much as possible for some "natural therapy."

Pamela (Lindsay) Sheridan

Pam passed away peacefully January 15, 2016 with husband Casey, daughter Sarah, and son Matt at her side. She was predeceased by her sisters Lilas (Tad) Haraguchi and Anne (Bjorn) Lauridsen and is survived by her brothers Lorne (Audrey) and Graeme (Sharon) Lindsay.
Pam completed nurses training at Vancouver's St. Paul's Hospital in August 1970 and was excited to attend their 45th class reunion in September 2015. Over the years, as Pam and Casey relocated, she worked as an RN in hospitals (primarily on maternity) in Abbotsford, Calgary, Fort St. John, Penticton, and Vancouver, omitting only Toronto.
Pam always had a craft project on the go. For the last few years she enjoyed quilting, knitting and needlepoint but before that her projects also included tole painting, teddy bears, and ceramics. When not doing crafts she loved Disney movies... always a kid at heart.
She enjoyed being an aunt and a great-aunt. Living on the lake in Lac Le Jeune since 2001, she loved hiking on the surrounding trails with her friends and snowshoeing in the winter.
The family will place Pam's ashes in Abbotsford's Hazelwood Cemetery on January 29th. At 2:30 PM that day a memorial reception for friends and family will be held at the Hole-in-the-Wall, 3807 Eldridge Road, Abbotsford.

A personal note...
I remember one day coming home from spending an afternoon with Pam. I said to my husband “Pam is such a good friend”. I can’t remember what Pam and I did or talked about that day, but it was just one of many that I felt that way. Leisurely lunches, relaxing yoga classes, overly adventurous hikes, ginormous belly laughs (sometimes during yoga..oops!), trips to quilt shows, chinwags over the clothesline… Time with Pam was never rushed. In many ways, Pam represents what life should be like, and that’s the irony.

Polarthon Revival Event

Location - Stake Lake, BC
This is a winter triathlon, originally hosted in Logan Lake but moved to Stake Lake this season so the new winter triathlon format of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) can be realized. The winter triathlon today is about where the summer triathlon was in the 1970’s and 80’s. An idea - but an idea that has caught on fire in some communities - especially Quebec - where this year they are hosting Winter Triathlon World Cups.
The mission statement of the Polarthon is to promote healthy outdoor winter activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family and to introduce young and older to the emerging sport of Winter Triathlon.
